The first rule of being a sports anchor is to throw yourself into silly controversy when your name is on the news.
Bob Sturm did just that this Friday. Sturm, the Cowboys reporter and Dallas-area host, who said he would turn in his retirement papers if franchise-team drafted Tyler Smith joked with the left tackle from Tulsa after the team won him with the 24th overall in the 2022 NFL draft selected.
On Friday, Smith called in Storm and Corby Davidson’s afternoon drive show on The Ticket to confront his hater.
“I’m surprised you’re here today, man,” Smith said, and you could hear his grin over the phone. “I saw some things on my social network. I thought you were taking a permanent leave of absence there.”
Storm responded with more ease.
“Well you know what, I deserve all of it,” he said. “I got it wrong, and the Cowboys took you in the first round, and good for you! We’re happy for you man.
“Let me come in, don’t let me get into that, I see you as a player as something developing. You’re the youngest player in the draft, aren’t you?”
Smith answered yes to the last part of the question and said he turned 21 in early April.
