Two LA-area cops fatally shot while responding to a call

Two Los Angeles-area police officers were fatally shot while responding to a possible stabbing Tuesday night, officials said.

The two El Monte police officers were responding to the possible crime scene at a Siesta Inn when they were immediately hit by gunfire, the LA County city said in a news release.

Both officers were hit and taken to LA County-USC Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

The suspect was also shot, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said, according to CBS Los Angeles.

“There are no words to describe our sadness and devastation at this senseless act upon learning of the deaths of two of our police officers,” the city, its police forces and the Police Officers Association said in a joint statement.

“It weighs heavily on our hearts and we send our support to their families,” the statement said.

“We would also like to thank the community of El Monte and our surrounding government agencies for the support we have received over the past few hours.” Two LA-area cops fatally shot while responding to a call
