Two people died Saturday after their single-engine plane crashed next to a busy restaurant in central Illinois, officials said.
The plane crashed around 12:30 p.m. on Route 116 in Hanna City, about 180 miles south of Chicago.
Peoria County officials said the man and woman on board, who have not yet been identified, were killed and autopsies will be performed Monday, according to the Peoria Star Journal.
The plane struck several buildings before stuttering to the ground and coming to rest on a street next to a restaurant packed with Saturday lunch diners, the newspaper reported. No one was immediately reported injured.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it was investigating the crash of the Mooney M20K plane.
