Twice stabbed New York straphanger battles vicious mugger on subway platform

The newly released video shows a straphanger struggling to hold on to his backpack after he was stabbed by a vicious robber on a Manhattan train, police say.
The 34-year-old victim was on a southbound F-train approaching Midtown’s 34th Street-Herald Square station around 10 p.m. on Nov. 22 when the suspect asked for a cigarette, police officers said.
The victim tried to give the man a cigarette when the thug instead tried to steal cash from him, police officers said. A fight ensued, and the robber stabbed his victim in the torso with a sharp object.
When the train arrived at the station, both men fell onto the platform. Video shows the fight continuing inside the station, with the attacker stabbing the man in the left shoulder a second time.
“The individual then forcibly took a backpack and $200 in cash from the victim and fled the location to parts unknown,” police said.
The victim sustained non-life-threatening stab wounds and was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition. There were no immediate arrests.
