Trump adviser angered at start of his 2024 campaign: report

Many current and former advisers to former President Donald Trump are reportedly puzzled by the former commander in chief’s lack of activity nearly three weeks after announcing his 2024 presidential bid.

“So far he’s walked down from his bedroom, made an announcement, gone back to his bedroom and hasn’t been seen since except for dinner with a white supremacist,” a Trump 2020 campaign adviser told CNN of the 76- year-old former President of the unfavorable start to his election campaign.

“It’s 1000% a ho hum campaign,” added the consultant.

The 76-year-old’s previously seemingly distant demeanor in 2022 stands in stark contrast to the pace of his 2016 presidential campaign. In 2015, Trump made campaign stops in Iowa and New Hampshire and announced a visit to South Carolina before the end of the first week of his announcement.

Trump’s Nov. 16 speech at his Mar-a-Lago estate, which signaled the start of his third White House run, was widely panned for lack of energy and enthusiasm. No other Republican candidate has run in 2024 since the spectacle.

“I don’t know why he rushed it like that. It makes no sense,” a Trump aide said about the timing of his announcement, which came a week after the Nov. 8 midterm elections, in which Republicans did worse than expected.

“You know what it did to keep people from coming in? Nothing. He didn’t hire anyone. He wasn’t in the early states,” a Trump 2020 campaign adviser told CNN.

Several GOP mega-donors have reportedly said they will not support Trump in 2024 since his announcement, instead preferring to side with Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis should he enter the 2024 dispute.

“If Trump worked in a lush jungle environment in 2016, today he is in a desert,” another Trump ally told CNN. “The political landscape has completely changed. He was irresistible because no one understood him, but now everyone knows how to use him, so the question is, can he recalibrate himself?”

People familiar with Trump’s current campaign told CNN that the current slow approach to 2024 is intentional and that the former president is embracing a lengthy two-year tenure in the White House.

The campaign “is doing exactly what everyone always accuses [them] of doing nothing – taking a breather, planning and strategizing for the next two years,” a Trumpworld source told the news agency.

“Executives are holed up and working on a plan,” the person added.

“The question many of us have is whether Trump can sustain a campaign for two years. That’s the real difficulty here. The pace we’re seeing right now is designed for that,” a person close to Trump told CNN.
