Travis Scott is still under the covers after his tragic Astroworld concert that took place in November 2021. The massive concert ended in tragedy when a rush to the stage killed 10 and injured hundreds. Scott watched as his partnerships and tour dates were canceled after the event. While it’s not clear which star hosted the event, Pitchfork notes that several high-profile individuals attended. Attendees included Leonardo DiCaprio, Venus and Serena Williams, and Tobey Maguire.
A few videos have surfaced on social media of Scott performing his hit song “Sicko Mode.” Notably, the rapper has neither promoted nor spoken publicly about the event.
Paparazzi have spotted the Houston native in public in the months since his Astroworld festival. But Scott has held back from performing — perhaps because of the plethora of legal troubles he’s facing. While away from the spotlight, he welcomed his second child with Kylie Jenner in February 2022.
How has Travis Scott been ‘canceled’ since Astroworld?
After the concert, many took Scott to task for not doing anything to stop the concert. The artist is currently facing hundreds of lawsuits over the tragedy. pitchfork notes that the House Oversight and Reform Committee is investigating Live Nation for its role in the events.
Coachella also dropped Scott from its 2022 line-up, ostensibly due to the backlash surrounding the devastating concert. The rapper also missed out on business opportunities because of the festival.
In December 2021, Dior announced that it planned to “postpone indefinitelyher collaboration with Scott. Many outraged fans have spoken out, claiming Scott shouldn’t get any more gigs or sponsorships until he “admits” the role he played in Astroworld’s tragic events.
Scott’s Astroworld appearance ended in disaster
The Astroworld festival resulted in 25 people being hospitalized. Eight deaths were confirmed on the night of the show. Two other people died from their injuries in the days that followed, including a 9-year-old boy. Many claimed Scott should have stopped the concert when he saw the crowd rushing onto the stage, causing mass chaos and carnage.
Not only did Scott not stop the show, he reportedly went partying in Houston after the show ended, prompting even more backlash from fans and critics. Several music artists came forward to condemn how the rapper handled the event. Videos even show him ignoring people who tried to alert him to what happened. Scott’s Ex-manager spoke up about seeing this tragedy coming because of past problems with Scott.
In a December 9th YouTube interview Scott opened the festival with Charlemagne The God, saying: “I only knew the exact details a few minutes before the press conference. And even at this moment you’re wondering, what? You just went through something.” The rapper claimed he had no idea people were getting hurt at his show and explained he couldn’t hear people in the crowd begging him to shut down the show. With so many lawsuits and legal issues pending, Scott will likely hold off on holding big events for now — although fans should expect to hear about more private shows in the coming months.
