Travel restricted from South Africa, some other countries due to omicron variation of COVID-19

DENVER – It’s only a matter of time before omicron variation of COVID-19 arrives in Colorado.
After a busy travel weekend, travel to the US from certain countries is now banned.
NS Travel ban starting Monday and impacts come from several countries in southern Africa, where the new variant was discovered.
Countries where the president has suspended entry to the United States:
- Botswana
- Eswatini
- Lesotho
- Malawi
- Mozambican
- Namibia
- South Africa
- Zimbabwe
President Joe Biden announced non-US citizens will be barred from traveling to the US if they have spent the past 14 days in either of the two countries listed above effective Monday.
US citizens who have been in one of those countries in the past two weeks are still allowed to go home, however, The US State Department is advising All Americans do not travel to South Africa.
The new variations are identified in North America on Sunday.
NS Medical Director at National Jewish Health, Dr. Carrie Horn, said it is working to track down any possible cases of omicrons in Colorado.
Horn says they do this by performing random positive COVID-19 tests and mapping their genome sequences.
