Tom Holland announces mental crisis: “I spiral”

Even superheroes need a break.

Actor Tom Holland announced on Sunday that he is withdrawing from social media platforms to desperately take care of his mental health.

The Spider-Man: No Way Home star hasn’t been active on Instagram and Twitter for a few months, and it seems like he’s finally given fans an explanation.

The 26-year-old said he deleted the apps from his phone and doesn’t plan to reinstall them anytime soon.

“I find Instagram and Twitter overwhelming, overwhelming,” the actor said in a video to his 67.7 million Instagram followers.

“I get trapped and spiral when I read things about myself online and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state. So I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”

Holland said creating the video took him “about an hour” as he tried to put his thoughts into words.

The actor also spoke about a UK-based teenage mental health charity called Stem4, which he sponsors through his family organization, The Brothers Trust.

“There’s a terrible stigma against mental health and I know we shouldn’t be ashamed to ask for and seek help, but it’s a lot easier said than done,” he said in the three-minute clip.

Holland thanked his fans for listening and told them he was “getting off Instagram again.”

“I love you all – and I will speak to you soon,” he said goodbye.

It didn’t take long for fans to rush to the comments section to send their well wishes to Holland.

“Don’t worry we understand you but we will miss you too,” one fan wrote, before another added, “It’s okay Tom I hope you’re having a great life.”

“Man, you are an inspiration to so many. But what matters is your physical and mental health, so take care and come back better than ever,” wrote a third.
