Tom cruise returns to the big screen for some big projects after his work on Mission Impossible 8. Following the critical and commercial success of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, Cruise and producer/co-writer Christopher McQuarrie are teaming up on three brand new projects.
The two are currently working together on Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two, the eighth installment in the action franchise, which will be written and directed by McQuarrie. Cruise also plans to reprise the role of Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder and take on a musical. As fans wait for more death-defying stunts, these two have a few more tricks up their sleeves that they’ll be working on soon.
What is Tom Cruise’s next movie?
A teaser trailer has been released for the seventh film, Mission: Impossible, in which Cruise will reprise his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Shortly after this action spy film franchise comes to an end in 2024, Cruise will be working on new projects with McQuarrie.
Deadline announced they have three other upcoming projects, one of which will be an original song-and-dance musical that will serve as a vehicle for Cruise. Cruise previously demonstrated his singing skills in the 2012 film Rock of Ages. He will also star in a new action thriller with franchise potential.
One of the more exciting announcements is that Cruise will be reprising his legendary role as Les Grossman in an upcoming project. Cruise portrayed the loud, mundane studio head in the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder. Cruise’s bald head, fat hands and dance moves will return to the big screen very soon, although it’s not yet known if Grossman will be in a standalone spin-off or whether he will be included in any of the previously mentioned films.
Cruise and McQuarrie have previously worked together on Jack Reacher and the two most recent Mission: Impossible films, starting with Rogue Nation. They are also collaborating with director Doug Liman, NASA and Elon Musk’s SpaceX to make the first film to be shot partially in space. With so much on the horizon and Cruise recently directing the highest-grossing film of his career, the action hero isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
In other news, Netflix games haven’t fared well lately, MultiVersus player count has surpassed 10 million, and Warner Bros. reportedly wants Henry Cavill to return as Superman.
