Today’s Overwatch update adds a new skin, but the Brigitte Medic controversy rages on

The Overwatch 2 beta is now over and players have started to hit the road again over watch for now. That’s why Overwatch received a new update today, July 19th, introducing the legendary Royal Knight Mercy skin. However, most fans remain upset with Blizzard over the methods of unlocking the Brigitte Medic skin.

July 19th Overwatch Update Patch Notes

The patch notes for the July 19 Overwatch update are fairly brief, simply telling players to “celebrate the Overwatch League Midseason Madness with the Royal Knight Mercy Legendary Skin.” The new Mercy skin can be purchased with Overwatch League tokens, but only for a limited time until August 19th.

Players may have another skin to worry about, but some are still angry about the controversy surrounding the legendary Brigitte Medic skin. The skin was originally available during the Overwatch 2 beta, but only if players gifted three subs to a participating Twitch streamer while playing the beta, which cost around $15. Surprisingly, the list of streamers included some who didn’t typically play Overwatch, but most players were upset that China had a much easier method for unlocking the skin. As Dexerto noted, Chinese players only needed to watch two hours of the Midseason Madness Overwatch League tournament.

Whether the skin will ever return remains to be seen, but if it does, Blizzard may need to come up with an unlock method applicable across all regions. Blizzard has said that they will proceed with Supporting a Streamer event if the Brigitte Medic event is successful, but there was no further announcement on that either.

In other news, the Fortnite Anime Legends Pack will be released later this year, but won’t include the rumored Dragon Ball crossover. Elsewhere, the Destiny 2 servers were down for a few hours today in order to apply Update 4.1.5 in time for the start of the Solstice event.
