‘To be honest’: Ian Wright gives his verdict on David Raya’s Arsenal debut today

Ian Wright believes David Raya performed well on his Arsenal debut as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday.

The on-loan Brentford star moved to Arsenal this summer, although he didn’t know what it meant for the club’s number one goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Now, just weeks after David Raya was in the building, Mikel Arteta has already put the Spanish star in the starting XI, with Wright adding that he has given his defense “confidence” through his calmness in defense and his ability to collect crosses he said Premier League Productions (09/17/23 at 6:30 p.m.).

As far as big saves go, Arsenal’s new man between the posts didn’t have much to do as the Premier League defending champions found it very difficult to beat a resilient Everton team.

Ultimately, Leandro Trossard needed a top-class finish to secure the points for his side after the new signing was involved in a clash between Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard in January.

This win confirms Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the new season and moves them up to fourth in the table ahead of their north London derby against Tottenham next week.

“To be honest, he didn’t have too much to do,” Wright said. “But what he had to do was come and grab some really good balls from set pieces and corners. And he did it very, very well.

“You would be surprised how much confidence that gives your defense and your players, knowing you have someone behind you that gives you that calm and collective demeanor.”

Who will start in the Champions League?

Club football’s biggest competition returns next week, with Arsenal set to welcome Dutch side PSV to the Emirates.

Who starts between the posts? And will this player also be in goal for the heavyweight showdown against Tottenham?

Sure, Ramsdale returns to the starting lineup, but then again, chopping up and changing the goalkeeper from game to game isn’t great.
