MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A new CBS poll shows that 28% of vaccinated Americans feel confident that a COVID-19 vaccine will protect them from the virus and its variants, like Omicron. Fifty-seven percent feel somewhat confident, while 68% of Americans plan to gather with family and friends this holiday season.
Jane Kanan will spend Christmas with her family.
“It’s all about Christmas,” says Kanan.
All adults are vaccinated. Two people in her family who are traveling are taking the test first.
She said: “We have two kids who haven’t been vaccinated yet, so let’s keep all of our precautions around that fact.
The Minnesota Department of Health recommends that anyone who will be traveling on vacation check before gathering, and also test the lows several weeks before.
CentraCare’s Dr George Morris says it’s important to gather to celebrate, but do it as safely as possible to help overwhelmed hospitals help patients
“Try to minimize your exposure. Wear a mask when you go out, you know, reduce the number of times you go out in public in large groups of people you don’t know,” Morris said. “Watch yourself for cold and flu symptoms. Pneumonia and flu persisted. We really like to treat this as COVID and other ways to stay safe. ”
Health officials say the Delta variant is still causing the majority of cases in Minnesota. Dr. Morris says even opening windows during your holiday celebrations can help circulate air and reduce risks.
