Tim Sherwood sends Arsenal a title warning

Tim Sherwood believes Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are in the Premier League title race alongside Arsenal and Manchester City.

The former midfielder says he is “changing his mind” that it is a “one horse” race as he explained Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will not have a better chance of becoming English champions.

The bottom line is that the Gunners have played one game fewer than all these teams.

But at the end of the day, points on the board are equal pressure and Man United, who play Leeds United on Wednesday night, have a chance to close that gap just to keep that door open.

Of course, Arsenal, who were beaten by Everton at the weekend, can end all this talk by beating Man City at the Emirates later this month.

All in all it’s quite an exciting title race and Sherwood believes it’s a four-way battle, he told Premier League Productions (05/02/23 at 19:20).

“I’ve always said it’s a one-horse race with Manchester City, but I’m changing my mind,” Sherwood said. “It’s different now. This is not Liverpool and Man City where they can run and win until the end of the season.

“Do you think Man City can win every game from now until the end of the season? I think they are the best team capable of that. But Man United are now at odds, and Newcastle as Eddie Howe got them.

“Arsenal must lose now. I mean they play Man City twice. Absolutely (Man City need to win both games) – I honestly believe Man City will win the league but I wouldn’t bet my life on it.

“Somebody has to break the mold. You have to win it sooner or later. I think they have a team capable of winning it. Arsenal are massive and they won’t get a better chance.”

IS THIS ARSENAL TIME?

With Manchester City chasing Arsenal, the dominant team of the last decade, everyone expects them to go on a crazy run and shoot down Arsenal.

But it just doesn’t happen.

Perhaps that comeback win over Tottenham a few weeks ago was the first sign, then Arsenal will lose to Everton.

But Man City slip up again, and only against Spurs. Even if Arteta and his players stumble, they can afford it because those behind them aren’t exactly punishing them.

Newcastle didn’t beat them at the Emirates, Man United lost to a last-minute winner while Man City didn’t benefit from Everton beating the leaders.
