Tim Sale, legendary DC Comics and Batman artist, died at 66

Legendary comic artist Tim Sale has died at the age of 66.

“Tim Sale was an incredible artist whose interpretations of iconic characters had real human depth, and his groundbreaking page designs changed the way an entire generation thought about comic book storytelling.” DC Comics tweeted on Thursday, confirmed his death.

“Our condolences go out to Tim’s family and friends. He will be greatly missed.”

Sale – who worked on popular comics starring Batman, The Hulk, Spider-Man and Superman – had apparently been hospitalized earlier in the week with “severe health conditions”. according to DC executive Jim Lee.

His cause of death is not yet known.

Batman: The Long Halloween is considered the book that made Sale a star.

“Tim Sale was a legendary artist who created comic book masterpieces for the industry and beyond.” Marvel Entertainment tweeted.

“At Marvel, his Color series became stunning classics and remains just a small glimpse of his celebrated legacy.

“We mourn his loss today and our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

The artist, whose career began in the 1980s, has worked for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Harris Comics, and Oni Press, often collaborating with writer Jeph Loeb. Her book Batman: The Long Halloween” is credited with being the work that catapulted Sale to popularity.
