Rapper Stepz was named the most watched British artist on TikTok in 2022.
The London-born musician took first place in the video-sharing app’s Year On TikTok report, which reviews the trends and creators of the past year, beating out competition from established acts like Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith.
Stepz has 2.8 million followers on TikTok and went viral this summer with his song “Cramp Dat,” which samples Soulja Boy’s 2007 hit “Crank That.”
The musician, who also posts comedy videos on the platform, said he was named TikTok’s most watched UK artist: “Since I started on TikTok, I’ve been able to attract an audience that has allowed me to pursue my dreams and to let my sound with music be heard worldwide, thank god + TikTok, my life changed!”
Smith came in second, followed by Sheeran, who topped the list last year.
Eurovision star Sam Ryder finished fourth and was named one of Tiktok’s Breakthrough Artists of 2022.
Speaking of TikTok, Ryder said: “This crazy little app changed everything for me, so I want to say a huge thank you to the entire team and especially to the absolutely fabulous people from all over the world who have supported, shared and connected me. Love you, peace, bye!”
According to TikTok, the most popular song in the UK was “Sunroof” by Nicky Youre and producer Dazy.
Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill, first released in 1985, ranked sixth after a resurgence in popularity stranger things.
The viral hit “Jiggle Jiggle,” which includes the rap of Louis Theroux from his Weird Weekends series in 2000 and his episode of the YouTube video series, has also been the subject of viral success chicken shop datecame in eighth place.
Music producers Duke and Jones remixed the rap, and the song became a popular dance trend on TikTok earlier this year.
David Mogendorff, Head of UK Music Operations at TikTok, said that “the music that has thrived on TikTok in the UK this year has been as unpredictable and diverse as ever”.

“Just look at Louis Theroux, Kate Bush and even Encanto’s ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ in the top tracks, all of which became the center of massive trends on TikTok,” he said.
“It was also a stellar year for emerging talent. From Nicky Youre and Stepz to Venbee, Cat Burns, FLO, Dreya Mac and many more – a new generation of wonderful artists are building brilliant, lasting music careers with a massive amount of support and love from our TikTok community.”
The annual year in review on TikTok is based on internal research and trend analysis conducted from January to October 2022, according to the social media platform.
