Tiger Woods retires from the PGA Championship

Tiger Woods’ PGA Championship is over.

Woods retired Saturday night after battling to nine over par 79 in the third round of Saturday’s PGA Championship at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

When his round ended, Woods finished last among the 79 players to make the cut. His Saturday score was 10 strokes worse than Friday’s 69. He was 21 strokes behind round three leader Mito Pereira. Pereira, who is -9 under par, hit a 69 in the third round and has a three-shot lead over Will Zlatoris.

“I just didn’t play well,” Woods said after the third round. “I didn’t hit the ball very well and didn’t have the start I needed. I thought I hit a good tee shot of 2 and landed in the water and just never really got any momentum on my side.”

Woods, 46, was only playing in his second official tournament since sustaining multiple injuries to his right leg, ankle and foot in a car accident in February 2021. Last month he placed 47th at the Masters.
