Tiara Wheeler, daughter of former basketball player Tyson Wheeler, dies in an accident in Groton
On August 30, news broke that former baseball player Tyson Wheeler’s daughter, Tiara, died in the Groton dirt bike accident.
Social media users were devastated to learn the news of the death of Tyson Wheeler’s daughter Tiara. Tyson, who is currently working as an assistant basketball coach at Brown University after retiring from the NBA, confirmed the news and shared kind words about his daughter.
A look at what happened to Tiara Wheeler
According to reportsThe accident happened before 9:30 p.m. Monday when an off-road motorcycle collided with an Audi and Tiara was on the bike as a passenger.
The accident resulted in Tiara being thrown from her seat into the Audi. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London and then flown by plane to Yale New Haven Hospital. His condition is currently unclear.
It was reported that there were other riders on their first bikes and ATVs as well. However, they left the scene of the accident when the accident happened and did not help their companions.

The police will call other drivers
Police determined that other riders had removed the dirt bike from the scene of the accident while choosing to ignore their injured companions. Police Chief Louis J. Fusaro said, “In addition to the wanton disregard for human life, the removal of the dirt bike involved from the scene has rigged and hampered this investigation.”
He further noted, “What is most worrying is that because of this accident, someone who may have been traveling with them stopped and removed the dirt bike from the road rather than render assistance to those seriously injured.”
“Furthermore, reckless behavior on the roads poses a danger to these operators and innocent motorists. If this behavior doesn’t stop, I fear more of these senseless tragedies will happen.”
Tyson Wheeler breaks his silence
Confirming his daughter’s death, Tyson said: “She’s a real go-getter. She got things done. She was so bright. So articulate. So wonderful. So smart.”
Police are currently looking for video of the incident for more details on what happened.
