“There’s no need to escalate that far,” said Oklahoma City police, a 1-year-old was accidentally shot during a heated argument.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – An Oklahoma child is currently recovering at the hospital after accidentally shot.

Around 8 a.m. Monday, the mother of the 1-year-old boy and her boyfriend were in the car while they were arguing, according to Sgt, Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

During a domestic argument, the boyfriend’s loaded gun fell.

“I don’t know specifically how it happened, but a gun went off inside that vehicle… struck the child,” Sgt said. Damn it.

The neighbor told KFOR that the chaos was unusual for their apartment complex.

Witness Keiontrey Hodges said: “It was just a mess going on. “The baby’s mother yelled, ‘you shot my baby’ and ‘you go to jail’… Things don’t need to escalate to that extent.”

Sean Davis said: “I can count on my fingers the incidents that have happened here.

Hodges told KFOR that fights between the couple are not new, but this is the first time it has gone this far.

“When she turned the baby around and showed me the baby’s injuries. It.. it looks horrible,” said Hodges. “I never thought something like that would happen.”

The couple tried to get the child to the hospital but stopped at NW 19 and Macarthur after spotting an ambulance.

Despite her boyfriend’s gun going off, the toddler’s mother was arrested.

She faces domestic violence with a petty crime that is a misdemeanor.

Quirk told KFOR that the child is expected to be fine.
