The video shows a Ukrainian drone hitting Russian bombers

Dramatic video from the moment two Russian nuclear bombers were reportedly blown up in a suspected Ukrainian drone attack on a military airfield on Monday.

Black-and-white footage obtained by East2West News shows a bright flash at Engels-1 airbase in the Saratov region of Russia.

Two military personnel were wounded in the attack on the two old Tupolev Tu-95 planes – four-engine turboprop strategic bombers introduced in 1952, news channel Astra Telegram reported, citing unnamed sources.

There were no reports of nuclear contamination in the attack on the aircraft known as the Bears, some 460 miles from the Ukrainian border.

The blast set off car alarms at least six miles from the site, the Kyiv Post reported.

Saratov Governor Roman Busargin confirmed in a statement that an explosion had taken place at Engels.

“I want to assure you…there is nothing to worry about. No part of the civilian infrastructure was damaged,” he said.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat confirmed that the two bombers were damaged at Engels and Russian personnel were killed, the Kyiv Post said.

He has neither confirmed nor denied the Ukrainian military’s responsibility for the attack.

Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, said Monday on his Telegram channel: “A drone damaged two Tu-95 aircraft and a fuel truck exploded at an airfield near Ryazan.”

“They come from Engels Air Force Base [Russian] Fascists launch rocket attacks on Ukraine,” he added.

Russian President Vladimir Putin “was informed of the attacks,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.

The Tu-95s have been used in non-nuclear strikes on infrastructure in Ukraine during the ongoing strongman invasion of the country.

Another attack killed three people and wounded five others when a fuel truck exploded at Dyagilevo airbase near Ryazan, East2West reported.

Telegram channel VCHK reported that the attack was also likely carried out by a drone.

“There were explosions at the airfields near Ryazan and Engels [where] there is a strategic aviation airfield,” it said. “There was a drone attack in Engels. Apparently also in Ryazan.”

Since October, the Kremlin has been using Engels Tu-95 and Tu-160 bombers to launch up to 80 cruise missiles a day at Ukraine’s power grid, the Kyiv Post reported.

On November 23, Engels-based bombers devastated Ukraine’s power grid, leaving tens of millions of residents without power for up to three days.

On Friday, Ukrainian news agencies reported that Russia has stationed up to 20 strategic bombers in Engels and is planning more attacks in 48 to 72 hours, according to the newspaper.

One Russian military blogger was furious that the Kremlin’s air defense command failed to defend the airport from a cheap drone attack.

“They (the West) are laughing. Can you really imagine how loud the laughter is on the military staffs in America?” Sinyaya Boroda wrote, the Kyiv Post reported.

“Russia’s strategic nuclear forces can be attacked by cheap drones. Nothing protects Russia’s strategic nuclear forces. Russia’s strategic nuclear forces are helpless,” Boroda added.
