The trailer for Hocus Pocus 2 is delighting fans almost 30 years after the release of the original film

mumbo-jumbo Fans shared their excitement when the first trailer for the long-awaited sequel was released.

The original film debuted in 1993 and starred Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker as 17th-century witches in Salem, Massachusetts.

Just before the magical Sanderson sisters are executed as part of the witch trials, Winifred (played by Midler) casts a spell that will revive the sisters on the full moon on All Saints’ Day if a maiden lights the Black Flame Candle in her cottage.

The film follows the sisters after the spell was activated three hundred years later.

Since its release mumbo-jumbo has remained a popular Halloween movie and has loyal fans around the world.

On Tuesday (June 28), Disney released the first teaser trailer for the sequel, which is due out on Disney+ later this year, almost three decades after the original.

The clip introduces new teenage characters reading spells in a forest on Halloween night. As a flame magically erupts, there is a flash before the witches appear.

“Lock up your kids,” booms Winifred. “Yes Salem, we’re back!”

In response to the teaser, many have expressed delight at the characters returning for more spooky hijinks.

“Sorry I just fainted from excitement,” one fan said, while another tweeted, “ITS A GLORIOUS MORNING! #HocusPocus2“.

Elsewhere, another fan has an issue with the sequel being available primarily through a streaming service rather than having a traditional theatrical release.

“So god help me if this doesn’t get a theatrical release and on physical media…” they wrote. Another fan commented that the trailer looked better than expected: “Wait a minute, that looks really good.”
