The trailer for Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom snubs Amber Heard as she fears her role will be axed

Amber Heard’s fans are going wild after seeing the latest Aquaman 2 teaser. The actress, who plays the pivotal character Mera in DC Universe’s superhero franchise, is nowhere to be seen in the upcoming film’s epic teaser. The surprising twist comes after Amber Heard’s representative previously denied reports that she was dropped from the film during the infamous Depp-Heard trial in 2022.

“Aquaman Lost Kingdom” snubs Amber Heard

The 37-year-old actress portrays the superhero Mera in the DC film series. Mera plays a key role in the story of Aquaman aka Jason Momoa. She comes from Xebel and was raised as an assassin. She possesses superhuman strength, hydrokinesis, and superhuman durability and is the princess of the rival kingdom of Atlantena.

Despite Amber’s starring role in 2018’s Aquaman, the actress’ role in the film’s sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, was significantly reduced. This is proven by her tongue-in-cheek appearance in the trailer for the second film, which was released two months ago. Additionally, she isn’t seen at all in the film’s latest teaser, which hits theaters on December 10th.

The makers of the film have already commented on Amber’s reduced role in the follow-up film. However, this hasn’t stopped fans from expressing their disappointment with X (formerly known as Twitter).

The director of “Aquaman 2” reveals why Amber Heard has a reduced role

Many fans quickly linked Amber’s absence from Aquaman 2 to the Depp-Heard trial. The Rum Diary actress received a lot of negative press during her ex-husband Johnny Depp’s infamous trial in 2022.

When speaking about the absence of Arthur Curry’s love interest Mera from the films, director James Wan previously said (according to Screenrant) that the sequel will focus on Arthur’s relationship with his half-brother Orm. The latter character is portrayed by The Conjuring actor Patrick Wilson.

According to the director, this is the reason why Amber’s Mera is not featured heavily in the film’s promotional material.

Amber said she “fought really hard” to return to Aquaman 2

During the 2022 libel trial, the Hollywood star’s role in the Aquaman series came up several times.

Her ex-husband Johnny made viral claims that he helped get her the film role. But the mother of one denied this. She went on to explain that she “fought really hard” to return for the sequel, further claiming, “They didn’t want to put me in the movie.”

She claimed during the trial that she was given a second script for the film in which her role was “very reduced”. At the time, the actress claimed that the defamation trial had an impact on her role being cut.

But Warner Bros. bosses denied these claims.
