The suspect reportedly drove into a crowded Los Angeles street carnival

The driver, who allegedly plowed his SUV through a crowded street carnival, was struck by a crime in connection with the scary scene, leaving several injured, police said.

Mississippi man Steven Weems, 23, was arrested Saturday night and charged with a hit-and-run felony, the Los Angeles Police Department told the Post. He is being held in custody on $50,000 bail, the LAPD said.

Seven people suffered minor injuries, authorities said on Sunday, after Weems allegedly fled police in a white Porsche Cayenne after officers tried to stop him for a traffic stop at around 8:20pm

The flamboyant car crashed into a cement rail and into the carnival in the city’s historic South Central neighborhood, where about 2,000 people were enjoying the event, authorities said.

“It’s a blessing no one was seriously injured,” said Police Sgt. Robert Leary to the Los Angeles Times. “It was pretty hectic so I think people saw this car coming in and luckily got out of the way in time.”

The vehicle was later found three blocks from the scene of the accident, police said, according to ABC 7.

Weems was arrested around 8:30pm on Saturday and booked early Sunday, police said.
