The severed fiber-optic line leaves Hatteras Island without internet and phone service, officials say

CAPE HATTERAS, NC (WNCN) — Hatteras Island is without internet after a fiber optic cable was severed Friday, emergency management responders said.

The entire island lost internet and all landline and cellphone service Friday afternoon after the line was damaged, Dare County said.

Emergency response teams advise anyone experiencing an emergency to go immediately to the nearest fire or rescue station for help.

Dare County emergency response teams have not provided the cause of the fiber optic damage or a timeline for restoring services.
