‘The Office’ characters would be ‘removed’ in 2022.

Watercooler talks aren’t what they used to be.
Mindy Kaling, writer and star of The Office, recently claimed that the binge sitcom can’t be made in today’s politically correct climate — because it’s “so inappropriate now.”
“The writers I’m in touch with now are always talking about how much of this show we probably couldn’t do right now,” Kaling, 43, said in a recent interview with Good Morning America.
“Tastes have changed, and honestly what offends people has changed so much now. I think that’s actually one of the reasons the show is so popular, because people feel like there’s some kind of fearlessness or taboo she’s talking about,” the New York Times bestselling author added.
The American version of the workplace comedy, based on the British series of the same name, aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013. Led by lousy regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell), the series follows the daily lives of charismatic employees at Dunder Mifflin, a fictional paper company. Among the cast are John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, BJ Novak and Rainn Wilson.

Thoughtfully, the show is guilty of comments that wouldn’t fly in 2022, including problematic jokes about the characters’ different ethnicities and sexual orientations. Issues such as workplace and sexual harassment, such as B. nasty remarks about Stanley Hudson’s (Leslie David Baker) little daughter could not be repeated for today’s audience.
Kaling portrayed the bubbly, boy-crazy Kelly Kapoor for all nine seasons of the show. When asked what her character would be up to in a show reboot today, she replied: “I think she would have left Dunder Mifflin to be an influencer and then probably canceled almost immediately. In fact, most of the characters on that show would have been canceled by now.”
After her GMA appearance on Friday, the Tony Award-winning producer of A Strange Loop poked fun at co-hosts Amy Robach and TJ Holmes’ alleged affair on Twitter.
“Good Morning America is trending because of my performance, isn’t it?” Kaling joked.
The Office is currently available to stream on Peacock.
