The Netflix series Ragnarok jokes that his need for attention as a child led him to acting

As the Norse hit series prepares for yet another apocalyptic return to Netflix, let’s meet the main cast of Ragnarok Season 3.

Ragnarok stars some of the best and brightest stars in Norwegian entertainment, but what roles have they been in so far and which Norse gods do they represent in the third season of the hit series?

David Stakston is a Norwegian-American actor, born David Alexander Sjoholt in North Carolina and raised in Florida and Oslo, Norway.

Stakston made his professional debut in 2015 when he starred in the popular Norwegian teen drama series Skam as Magnus Fossbakken, a guest role in seasons 1–2, becoming a series regular in seasons 3–4. His only other major roles alongside Magne in Ragnarok were in the short domestic film Vill Ni Aka Mera, where he played Jonas, and in the 2017 TV series Ikke din skyld, also as Jonas.

In conversation with Lord of the Series youtube Stakston shared that he believes he was initially drawn to the world of acting because he “needed attention” as a kid, adding, “I think I was kind of a class clown like any actor.” The rising star then explained on how he was so obsessed with a certain movie as a kid that he went to kindergarten in his favorite costume:

“It got so bad my mom had to take off my costume and tell me, ‘You can’t do this anymore.’ I find [it was] Then she understood that this guy is going to be an actor or wants to be an actor.”

Gravli made his professional debut in 2014 when he starred as Axel in the short film Victor before landing another cameo role in a domestic production called I kveld er det lov a vaere mann in 2017. As early as the next year, Gravli was to receive notable roles as Peter in Roeng, Kalle in Gome Ground and Viljar on July 22nd; each to a positive reception.

In recent years, Gravli has starred in Wisting (2019), Welcome to Utmark (2021), Wild Men (2021), Kjaere landsmenn (2021), Jordbrukerne (2021), The Lorenskog Disappearance (2022) and Feris (2022).

Interestingly, Gravli says he got into acting by accident and never really had any ambition to be an actor as a kid. in a (n interview Speaking to Darkus Magazine, the young star said: “When I had to apply to high school I couldn’t get into the schools I really wanted to go to so I had to go to a school that had acting classes and that was my first time .” I was introduced to acting. I felt like I really enjoyed that, so I continued down that path and it all led to my becoming an actor.”

Danu Sunth, born Danu Suntharasigamany, is a Norwegian actress and model from Oslo, who is one of the fastest rising stars in the Scandinavian entertainment industry and only made her professional debut in 2020.

Sunth has three major acting roles to her credit: she played Ellen in the 2020 film To Nowhere, Shadia in seven episodes of the Flus TV show, and her most popular role to date as Iman in the Netflix series Ragnarok.

Sunth talks about her rise into the mainstream thanks to Ragnarok described her journey so far as “absolutely insane” and “what every actor wants in a leading role”. The actress also shared why she thinks the show has had such a positive response from fans around the world:

“It’s so realistic, but then [also] has all these elements that are just “wow, that’s out of this world”. And I think Ragnarok is really good at playing with it [genre-bending elements] and walk back and forth. When something out of the ordinary happens, they return to reality very quickly, so you keep coming back to the real parts of this world. It’s really well done.”

Sundquist is a famous Norwegian actor from Hammerfest who has appeared in numerous TV shows, feature films and stage productions since his professional debut in 1977.

Arguably his most famous works are Arnfinn Madson in Feldmann Saken (1987), Konrad Sejer in Sejer (2000), Turgaer in Dead Snow (2009), Jorden in The Unit (2011) and Jackson in Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013). In recent years, the veteran actor has also appeared in The Machinery (2020), Monster (2017) and The Last King (2016).

Sundquist was also the youngest actor to win the coveted Honorary Amanda Award (Norwegian version of an Oscar) in 2000 at the age of 52.

Helstad is a Norwegian actor and musician who made his professional debut in 1996’s Body Troopers but had to wait until 2010 for his big break as King Erling in The Devil’s King.

The veteran actor has also appeared in Permafrost as Hans Petter (2014), The Last King as King Hakon (2016), Kielergata as Adam (2018) and Erik in One Night (2018) and has offered his voice to many Norwegian voice actors from Disney -Film.

According to IMDB, he is also the first actor to exist accepted twice at the Norwegian Academy of Performing Arts, after initially dropping out to accept a role in King of Devil’s Island.

Theresa Frostad Eggesbo as Saxa Jutul

Eggesbo is a Norwegian actress who was actually born in Dubai (UAE) before moving to Oslo as a child; before making her professional debut in 2016 playing Sonka in Skam alongside some of her other Ragnarok cast members.

Her other notable roles include Charlotte in The Commit (2017), Anna in November (2018), Zoe in Threesome (2021),

speaking in one interview Shortly after the series premiered in 2020, Eggesbo shared how she was living in London when the casting director called but was unable to travel to Norway for the audition:

“I couldn’t be there for the audition, so I sent in a self-video of about two minutes [of work]. I filmed two scenes, a few days passed and I got the role. It’s weird to think that the little clip I took is the reason I got the part.”

Interestingly, many of the leads were chosen based on their screen tests, including Herman Tommeraas, who actually auditioned for the role of Magne before getting Fjor.

Ragnarok Season 3 will be released on Netflix on August 24, 2023.
