The most expensive home in the US gets a $55 million discount

This cherry of a unit atop America’s most expensive apartment building has seen a huge discount.
When the penthouse apartment in the Central Park Tower in midtown Manhattan was listed last September, its sky-high asking price of $250 million made it the most expensive home for sale in the country — and at least one that could have destroyed a New York City Sales record if it traded for that stratospheric sum.
However, when the three-story condo failed to sell after a year on the market, it took a massive $55 million price cut. The luxury property is now asking 22% less, or $195 million. Bloomberg first reported.
While still aiming for nine figures, the reduction means the penthouse no longer threatens to dethrone the current record holder for New York’s most expensive home sale ever.
Hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin’s roughly $238 million purchase of nearby 220 Central Park South in 2019 still firmly wears that crown. He is no stranger to breaking sales records around the world.
The Central Park Tower triplex begins on the 129th floor of 217 W. 57th St., 1,416 feet above all.

It also spans the 130th and 131st floors of the building, which is not only the tallest tower on Billionaire’s Row, but also the tallest residential building in the world.
It has 179 apartments ranging from two to eight bedrooms and was co-developed by Extell and Shanghai Municipal Investment, The Post reported when it first revealed its views in 2019.
“It’s so high, you’re above the noise,” Ryan Serhant of Serhant, who owns the property, told the Post last year when the palatial building was listed for sale. The Post has reached out to us for comment on this pricing update. “When you’re on the terrace you don’t hear anything – maybe a plane, but that’s it. You are above the sound. It’s so silent. Its magical. You find yourself 1,400 feet in the air and step onto your own private patio surrounded by a giant glass wall. There has never been anything like this before.”
It features approximately 17,500 square feet of indoor space, more than 1,400 square feet of outdoor patio space, and 27-foot ceilings throughout.
There are two kitchens, two ballrooms, 11 bathrooms, seven bedrooms, multiple living and entertainment rooms, a library, a media room, a study and a separate service entrance.
