Ahead of the new episodes, which begin Monday, June 6, islanders will undergo video training and guidance to make the experience as empathetic and welcoming as possible.

These sessions cover the use of inclusive language related to disability, sexuality, race and ethnicity, behaviors and microaggressions.

In an announcement by ITV and Lifted Productions on Friday (27 May), it was revealed that this addition is part of their extended due diligence protocols.

Training for newcomers will include sessions chaired by Leon Mann MBE, Founder of BCOMS (Black Collective of Media in Sport), Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Advisor Hayley Bennett, Disability Specialist Shani Dhanda and Broadcaster Sean Fletcher.

“These discussions will be on topics such as inclusive language, behavior, creating safe spaces and being a good ally,” the production company’s statement said.

In addition, the islanders will take part in prep activities designed to help them deal with the attention they will receive throughout the show and beyond.

That includes details on the two weeks before they enter the villa, how to deal with being filmed 24/7, how to deal with social media trolling and adjusting to life off the show.

As part of the aftercare package, participants will receive tailored financial advice training and will be encouraged to find a management team to represent them.

Each islander will also be offered at least eight therapy sessions when they return home.
