The Long Shadow: Series Preview
The Long Shadow arrived on ITV and ITVX on Monday September 25, 2023, with a total of seven episodes scheduled to air weekly until November 6.
Starting in 1975, The Long Shadow chronicles the desperate five-year hunt for serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, who killed 13 women in West Yorkshire and Manchester.
The series takes a unique approach to the well-documented story as it focuses on Sutcliffe’s sacrifices and the impact on their families.
Toby Jones leads the drama’s star-studded cast, which includes a host of familiar faces including Katherine Kelly, David Morrisey, Daniel Mays, Lee Ingleby, Liz White, Shaune Dooley and Michael McElhatton, among others.

Who plays Peter Sutcliffe in The Long Shadow?
Mark Stobbart takes on the role of Peter Sutcliffe in “The Long Shadow”.
Stobbart was born in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, North Yorkshire, and has been acting since his first television appearance in Goodbye, Pet in 2002.
Since then, the actor has also appeared in “55 Degrees North”, “Inspector George Gently”, “The Silence”, “Vera”, “No Offense” and “The Hunt for Raoul Moat” in early 2023.
Mark Stobbart will be best known to drama lovers for his role in Line of Duty, where he played DS Neil Twyler in the fourth series in 2017.

Where is the real Yorkshire Ripper now?
Peter Sutcliffe died on November 13, 2020.
Following his five-year killing spree between 1975 and 1980, Peter Sutcliffe was stopped by police in Sheffield on January 2, 1981 after it was discovered his car had false number plates.
Sutcliffe was questioned in connection with the Yorkshire Ripper murders as he shared a number of physical characteristics described by witnesses and survivors, and eventually confessed to the murders on January 4.
After a two-week trial, Sutcliffe was found guilty of 13 counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder in May 1981.
Sutcliffe was originally sentenced to 20 life sentences, to be served concurrently, with a recommended period of 30 years before parole could be considered.
Facing the looming prospect of parole in 2011, the Supreme Court gave Sutcliffe a life order in 2010, meaning he would never be released from prison.
During his sentence, Sutcliffe was imprisoned at HMP Parkhurst, Broadmoor maximum security hospital and HMP Frankland in County Durham.
Sutcliffe died at the University Hospital of North Durham on November 13, 2020, aged 74.
