The pediatric practice of Dr. Stephanie Russell in Louisville, Kentucky was a cozy Disney-style kid’s dream with a living Finding Nemo aquarium and a promise that “your kid is a star.”
But she didn’t hand out lollipops in her personal life. Federal prosecutors are embroiled in a vicious custody battle with her ex-husband and believe the kind-looking Dr. Russell hired a hitman to kill him – and it’s not the first time.
Russell, 52, who is a pediatrician at Kidzlife in Louisville, allegedly agreed to pay an undercover FBI agent $7,000 to take out her former spouse last Sunday, according to US prosecutors.
On Wednesday, Russell left $3,500 in cash in a mailbox outside her office to pay half of the fake killer’s bill, the FBI says.
She had allegedly told the agent she would pay him the other half after he finished the job.
Russell has been accused of using interstate trade facilities in committing contract killings and faces 10 years in prison, authorities said.
This reportedly wasn’t Russell’s first attempt at hitting her ex. 2020 court documents cited by WAVE3 in Louisville indicate that Russell and her ex-husband have had a custody battle over their two children for at least two years.
A judge ruled against Russell in the lawsuit, saying she should lose custody of her children after she was accused in court of “coaching” them, WAVE3 reported.
The children’s legal representative also alleged in court that Russell tried to hire someone to kill her ex-husband in May 2018, the outlet said.
A lawyer for Russell at the time denied the allegations and called them absurd. She later filed a lawsuit against the judge.
Lance Dooley’s two daughters have been seeing Russell since birth.
“She’s been her GP for six years, so it’s crazy,” Dooley told WHAS TV.
Dooley tried to get his children’s medical records because they had found a new pediatrician after hearing about Russell’s arrest.
“Cash donations were just around the corner,” he said. “It drives us crazy. It’s one of those things you don’t expect.”
Russell’s online reviews were generally positive until trolls heard about the murder charge on Friday.
“Her willingness to go the extra mile to fix a problem is her trademark,” wrote Richard Burchett. “You could say she’s killing it.”
