A clever YouTuber showed how anyone can create a hologram with their iPhone.
The trick was shared further by @Mrwhosetheboss youtube several years ago and has since been viewed more than 24 million times.
“Get ready guys because you’re about to learn how to make your own hologram,” the YouTuber said at the beginning of the two-minute video.
“This is actually a lot easier than you probably imagined,” he added.
He then briefed users on the materials needed, which included graph paper, tape, a pen, scissors, a smartphone, and a CD case – although we’d recommend a flexible screen protector instead, and yes, we’ve tested it.
How to create your hologram projector
As a first step, draw a simple diamond shape measuring 1 cm x 3.5 cm x 6 cm on your graph paper.
Next, use your scissors to cut out the diamond shape from your graph paper – this will be your template for cutting the screen protector.
Once that’s done, draw your diamond shape four times on your screen protector and then carefully cut it out.
You should end up with four diamond-shaped cutouts that you need to attach together with your tape.
You should aim for a pyramid shape (see image below) when gluing them together – note that the bottom and top of the pyramid are open.
Once you’ve done that, you can project some holograms!
How to project holograms
First select a hologram video on Youtube of your choice – there are special videos made for this purpose.
Then place your hologram projector in the center of your smartphone screen.
Last but not least, turn off the lights, press play on your phone and enjoy the show!
“I did this for my school science project and won the competition. I didn’t know this video was from the guy who makes one of the best tech videos ever,” one user wrote under the YouTube tutorial.
“I love how short and concise it is and actually works lol. More tutorials on YT should be like this,” added a second user.
