The Holiday: 9 Actors You May Have Missed in Christmas Comedy

The holidays is a Christmas classic. A cozy rom-com set between snowy Surrey and sunny Los Angeles, the film tells the story of two women, Iris (Kate Winslet) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz), who decide to swap houses for the holiday season.

Both in a new place and both sworn off love by terrible experiences, Iris and Amanda somehow managed to find “the one” and learn new things about themselves along the way.

Miles (Jack Black) and Graham (Jude Law) are everything you want and more in romantic comedy love interests. Funny, friendly and vulnerable, the two men are perfect choices for Iris and Amanda respectively.

However, there are a number of other actors who either make cameo appearances or appear in some of their earliest film roles.

Here are the ones you may not remember.

Dustin Hoffman as himself

Dustin Hoffman appears in the scene where Miles (Jack Black) and Iris (Kate Winslet) visit the DVD store together and Miles discovers his girlfriend has been cheating on him.

Hoffman’s appearance is brief, playing another customer in the store. Miles gets a copy of The graduate, one of Hoffman’s most famous films, and begins to sing the score. Standing behind Miles, who doesn’t see him, Hoffman shakes his head and says quietly, “Haven’t got nowhere to go.”

Strangely enough, this cameo appearance was not planned. In fact, Hoffman drove past the DVD store during filming. He noticed all the cameras and decided to stop by and see what was going on. Hoffman knew Nancy Meyers, so she worked him into the scene.

Catherine Hahn as Bristol

Hahn plays Bristol, one of Amanda’s colleagues who works with her on making movie trailers. In the only scene she appears in, which is around the 17 minute mark at the beginning of the film, Hahn is sporting a prosthetic baby bump as her character is pregnant.

However, unbeknownst to audiences at the time, Hahn was pregnant in real life, although not as far along as Bristol. she saidradio times: “I was actually pregnant on set, but then I wore a huge prosthetic abdomen over it. It was a very surreal experience.”

Lohan appears in the film as herself, in a fake trailer alongside James Franco that was filmed specifically for it The holidays. The trailer she stars in is for an action movie and is edited by Amanda, Ben and Bristol.

Meyers explained that her past collaborations with the actress allowed her to bring Lohan on board the parent trap, Lohan’s breakout role as a tween.

The director told 2006: “I said it [Lohan] she owes me everything so i made her do it. I called her and said, ‘You have to do this for me,’ but she was sweet, she was totally there.”

Lohan starred in her own Netflix Christmas movie in love with christmas released earlier this year.

James Franco as himself

Meyers had met Franco at dinner parties a few times and the two had mutual friends.

“I asked him if he would do it,” Meyers explained, “and it turns out that Lindsay and James knew each other and it was really fun.”

The fake trailer was shot very quickly, in just a day and a half.

Odette Annable and Alex O’Loughlin as the kissing couple

Annable is best known for having Dr. to play Jessica Adams house md and more recently Geri Broussard walker.

She appears in the very first scene of The holidays, as part of an on-screen couple from a film to which Miles is composing the score. Annable, credited as the woman from “Kissing Couple,” wears a long white historical drama-style dress and kisses a man, played by Alex O’Loughlin, by a country river.

O’Loughlin, best known for his role as Steve McGarrett in hawaii five 0, The other half played the “Kissing Couple” in the first scene The holidays.

Bill Macy as Ernie

Macy, who began his acting career in 1966, played the role of Ernie, one of Arthur’s friends. He appears in the Hanukkah party scene with Iris and Miles at Amanda’s house and is also in the crowd when Arthur gives his speech to the Writers’ Guild. Sadly, Macy passed away in October 2019 at the age of 97.
