The first Brit to die with the Omicron variant was embroiled in a ‘conspiracy theory’, a person claiming to be his relative has said.

Boris Johnson confirm UK’s first known death from Omicron on Monday. However, the variant that could cause more deaths in the case of the virus strain has not been analyzed.

No details have been officially released about the patient who died earlier this week but a man claiming to be Mr John’s stepson has now said the victim was unvaccinated.

John called in LBC to try and encourage those who are hesitant about getting vaccinated.

He told host Nick Ferrari that his stepchild was in his 70s and healthy when he contracted the disease in early December.

“He’s healthy, he eats healthy, he doesn’t smoke, and he hasn’t drank in the last 30 years,” says John.

John also said the man was at minimal risk of infection because he ‘never went out’.

The caller explained: ‘He’s a recluse, to be honest with you, he never goes out, he shopped for him.

‘The only places he goes are the trash can, outside the block he lives in, and the mailbox.’

Despite all of this in favor of the uncle, the infection worsened and he was rushed to hospital in Northampton early last week.

John said his sister, the only one of whom had a relationship with his stepmother, blamed the tragedy on his refusal to get vaccinated.

John continued: ‘[My sister] had an argument with [my stepdad] at the end of October about this – vaccination.

‘He thought it was a conspiracy. He’s a smart man but that’s all the different things you get from the online stuff and the various media… about how it’s not real… it really is conspiracy theories. ‘

The man’s stepdaughter is said to be ‘absolute’ and his family wants their hardship as a warning to others.

John said: ‘If he had been vaccinated he would probably still be here. He may be sick, but he will still be here.

‘If you’ve been vaccinated and you’ve had your booster, you should be fine. Those are the things that aren’t there yet, they’re the things to worry about right now. ‘

It comes as Britain’s chief medical officer Chris Whitty last night said the country is facing two epidemics while it grapples with both Delta and Omicron.

Incredibly high cases at the moment but Omicron is not believed more dangerous to individuals who contract it than Delta, although its high transmissibility can lead to problems for the health service as a whole.
