The Equalizer 3 tops the box office as the holiday weekend kicks off

Directed by Denzel Washington, The Equalizer 3 debuted at the top spot at the box office on Friday.

The third and reportedly final installment in the action series grossed $13.1 million on opening day — $3.8 million of which was in Thursday’s previews.

Variety said The box office was boosted by showings in world-class large-screen theaters, and the film is on track for the second-biggest Labor Day weekend opening in history

The Post praised the film, saying that unlike the first two films, which were “dark” and “pathologically uncomfortable,” the third “lives up to the ever-growing talent of its lead actor.”

The summer’s biggest blockbuster, “Barbie,” continued to draw viewers, grossing $2.5 million on Friday. The pink celebration has raised $1.35 billion worldwide.
