The Dodgers’ Will Smith pays the price for the 2022 Oscar swatter

Will Smith’s afternoon at the stadium included a downpour of boos – and a smack to the outfield.

The Dodgers catcher, who happens to share a name with a certain Oscar winner now at the center of a 2022 Oscars scandal, was greeted with jeers from the crowd during LA’s spring training game against the Texas Rangers in Arizona on Thursday.

On the way to the plate, the 27-year-old then set off Hit the ball in deep midfield for a treble. Unfortunately for Smith, his Dodgers lost to the Rangers 8-2.

Thursday’s game comes days after actor Will Smith beat Oscar presenter Chris Rock onstage at Sunday’s Academy Awards. The 57-year-old comedian had presented the award for best documentary and made a joke about the baldness of Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia and is open about her battle with hair loss.

“Keep my wife’s name out of your friggin’ mouth,” yelled Smith, 53, at the Dolby Theatre.

In the moments after the incident, Smith received the Best Actor award for his work as Richard Williams, father of tennis superstars Venus and Serena, in the movie King Richard.

The academy has since condemned Smith’s actions, with conflicting reports surfacing as to whether or not the actor was asked to leave the ceremony.

Smith issued a public apology to Rock on Monday.
