The Conroe Independent School District recognizes staff involved in a teacher’s life-saving effort

CONROE, Texas – During a regular meeting March 22, the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees gave special recognition to three district employees who were involved in the lifesaving efforts of Monica Jones, a teacher at Oak Ridge Elementary School. CISD Sgt. Michael Mann, CISD Officer Tramecia Wiley and Oak Ridge Elementary Principal Tami Eldridge received the district’s Life Saving Award.

“We see these acts of kindness and appreciate these people every day,” said CISD Police Commissioner Mike Blakelock during the meeting. “What we don’t often do is recognize someone for taking these actions or striving to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life, and I’m honored to recognize Officer Tramecia Wiley and Sgt. Michael Mann for their efforts . They will tell you they were just doing their job; we know it’s much more than that.”

Jones told the board she went to bed sick on February 8 and did not show up for work at Oak Ridge Elementary on February 9. Jones said that on the morning of February 9, Eldridge persistently called her phone. When Eldridge received no reply, she asked Wiley to check on Jones at her home. Jones said Wiley and Mann found her unresponsive at her home and called 911. She was then transported to the hospital.

“I live because of these sweet, silent heroes who jumped into action,” Jones said. “What they did that day – without fanfare – made a difference. Maybe not for the masses but for at least one person and family. February 9, 2022 could have been my last day – the last day of my life. but luckily, life is a series of thousands of little miracles set in motion by unsung heroes like Tami Eldridge, Officer Wiley and Sergeant Mann. Your actions that day were the miracle I needed,” Jones said.

Also during the March 22 meeting, the board approved the campus mascot and school colors for Gordon Reed Elementary School, which will open for the 2022-23 school year. The elementary school mascot is the Gordon-Reed Cubs and the school colors are navy blue, yellow and charcoal. The district conducted a mascot selection process for prospective students and families at Gordon Reed Elementary School. Students and families were asked to submit nominations for a potential mascot, and the top nominations were submitted to students and families for feedback via an online form.
