The Chicago Bears contacted at least 15 general managers and 11 coaching candidates for interviews. As they go through the process, we’re looking at each potential employee.
Ryan Poles interviewed for GM’s opening day on Friday, the team announced.
Position: Kansas City Chiefs’ Player HR Executives
Grow old: 36
Poles has been with the captain for nearly 13 years, going from assistant player human resources to university admissions coordinator and director, university scouting director, assistant director of player personnel and now director Player HR executives this season. He was a member of the Chiefs team that won Super Bowl LIV.
Poles was an offensive specialist at Boston College, where he was part of the line that protected quarterback Matt Ryan. He signed as an untrained free agent with the Bears before working as a recruiting assistant for BC in 2008-09.
You should know
Poland is also interviewing with the New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings this year and made it to the second round of the Giants interview. He was a finalist for the GM Carolina Panthers job last year.
Poland’s time with the Chiefs has spanned many GMs and coaches. He was named in the captaincy when former Bears coach Matt Nagy was quarterback coach and later offensive coordinator under manager Andy Reid.
What was said
Poland talking to his hometown newspaper two years ago on finding leadership among the players he scouts: “We see these guys on TV as athletes every week, but they’re also side by side. So the dressing room must be good. If you don’t have a solid dressing room, if you don’t keep everyone on the same page and if you don’t have the leaders to keep the focus moving forward, you’re going to lose it. ”
