NEW YORK (Reuters) – Members of the original cast of the hit US TV show “Sex and the City” reunited on the New York red carpet on Wednesday to celebrate the series’ release Their reboot, “And Just Like That”.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis will appear on the select show with the same characters after about two decades. Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones, the fourth member of the group of best friends in “Sex and the City,” will not appear in the new series.
Nicole Ari Parker, Sara Ramirez and Sarita Choudhury are among the new cast of the show. Ramirez said she jumped into the role of a gay, bisexual, non-binary character who is a stand-up comedian and a podcast host.
“It’s an opportunity that really suits my position and my position. And it feels organic and natural fit,” she says.
Parker said the idea of expanding the cast was thrilling.
“The idea of a growing family, a fraternity, a sorority is exciting and it seems challenging and exciting,” she said.
Davis said their characters are now in a different cultural moment.
“We are talking about different things. We are dealing with different things. So how will these characters deal with those things? It’s exciting for us to think about it,” explains Davis.
The new 10-episode series will air on HBO Max from December 9 and bring back Chris Noth and Mario Cantone among other beloved characters from the original show, according to the network.
Noth likens playing Mr Big, Parker’s long-term love, to conversing with an old friend you haven’t seen in 20 years.
“It’s been a special time in our lives and a special time in the city, and the city has had some hard times and I hope we can cheer up a little bit,” he said. .
