SNOWBALLS flew in NYC’s Washington Square Park during the weekend’s blizzard – and some shirts came off, too.
Hundreds of New Yorkers defied Winter Storm Kenan to take part in a big snowball fight Saturday afternoon in Washington Square Park.
The crowded event is loosely organized by a group of local comedians called NYC sidewalk.
Comedians just need to post the place and time in a normal invitation on Instagram account on Saturday morning, when there was already about 5 inches of snow on the ground.
Four hours later, hundreds of revelers were getting ready to make some snowballs on a classic chaotic New York snow day.
Sidetalk NYC founder Jack Byrne said: “We announced the event today at 10:30 a.m. and had over 1,000 people in the snowball fight at 2:30 p.m.
When the winter war snowed, some were even seen undressing in the heat of battle.
Photos and videos of the event flooded social media, where college students and New Yorkers threw snowballs, used umbrellas as shields and even sat on each other’s shoulders and cheered.
The amount of snow fell nearly 8 inches after that day, according to weather forecast.
The nor’easter has so far hit major parts of 10 states. By midday Saturday, more than 18 inches of snow had fallen across parts of the New Jersey coast and east of Long Island.
