(Reuters) – The BBC said on Friday it had temporarily suspended news operations in the Russian Federation while it assessed the impact of new legislation passed by Russian authorities.
BBC News will continue its service in Russian from outside Russia.
“The safety of our staff is paramount and we are not prepared to put them at risk of prosecution simply for doing their job,” BBC director-general Tim Davie said in a statement. “I want to commend them all for their courage, determination and professionalism.”
