The arrival of X-Men in Marvel MCU movies may have been set up in Thor 2

An unlikely Marvel film may have unraveled the clue to the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Despite a small contingent of supporters Thor: The Dark World is widely regarded as one of the studio’s weakest outings.

However, there’s no denying that it introduced several key elements that became important in later films.

Now it seems that with a short, unmissable text on the board by Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) laid the foundation for the arrival of the X-Men.

In July 2019, studio president Kevin Feige announced that the mutants would become part of the franchise, but didn’t elaborate on it at the time.

Many theories have been floating around, with one report claiming its introduction could clash with the Avengers’ return to a film that would not be released until Phase Six, which is expected to begin in the mid-2020s. Other reports predict that Wolverine will appear as early as Phase 5.

Fans have been slowly adjusting to the arrival of the X-Men in the MCU. First, Evan Peters reprized the role of Quicksilver in WandaVision after playing the character in the non-MCU X-Men franchise. Then a location important to the X-Men comics came into play The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

But the biggest development so far came with the release of the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. At one point, Benedict Cumberbatch’s wizard chief is shown to face none other than Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier.

While it looks like Xavier will star in the new film thanks to the introduction of a secret society called the Illuminati, many fans are wondering how the X-Men will be integrated into the MCU, having been absent so far.

A look at Selvig’s board inside Thor: The Dark World could give a big clue.

As Selvig tries to explain the minutiae of the Convergence – an event that brings all nine worlds into alignment – he is shown in front of a plaque inscribed with various cosmic anomalies that have rocked the Marvel world.

Feast your eyes on the following words: “The Fault.” This is a pivotal moment from the X-Men comics – it’s a cosmic rift created by the war between the Kree and the Shi’ar, and it’s the X-Men Men allows to join the herd.

Considering that Xavier’s Illuminati is formed in the comics after the Kree War with the Skrulls might explain that The Fault appeared in Doctor Strange 2.

Maybe even Doctor Strange himself is the one causing the cosmic rift.

The Kree-Skrull war will form the basis of the upcoming TV show Secret invasion.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be released on May 6, 2022.
