The annual event “Shopping with a policeman” is held on Saturday

HAINES CITY, FL. – It’s that time of year, Haines City Police Department spreads holiday cheer.

On Saturday, December 11, the agency will host its annual “Shopping with the Police” event.

The agency has partnered with Big Lots Corporation to help underprivileged children buy gifts this holiday season.

The children were selected by teachers and staff at their respective schools to participate in the event. Selected people will be given a $100 gift card and allowed to shop across Big Lots with a police officer, firefighter or volunteer.

After this event, Small World Tours arranged a charter bus to transport the children from Big Lots to El Zocalo Supermarket for free meals.

Edward Walker Dean, City Manager, said: “Seeing the community come together to help those in need makes me proud to be a part of this great city. “Our first responders work very hard to keep us safe, but they also have a great sense of community and this is another example of the many other ways they make a positive impact. pole.”

In addition to providing gifts to families in need, the Shop with a Cop program also reaches members of the public who may be shy about communicating with police officers. It also allows children to get to know the police and feel comfortable in their presence.

It teaches kids that police officers are people with their own interests, goals, and their own families who are always here to help.
