The 13 most valuable two-pound coins in circulation – from the London Olympics to William Shakespeare

RARE coins can be nearly 40 times their face value for almost £70, if they are in proper condition and have some collectibles on the original design.
There are 54 different £2 coin designs currently in circulation, for which coin hunters are willing to pay a premium.
Coin site ChangeChecker released a list coins to watch out for and if you find any of the below in your pocket, check it out on eBay because you might find it hard to believe.
In general, the lower the amount, the rarer the coin and The rarer the coin, the more valuable it is.
That means not many are made, which is more appealing to collectors as they are harder to buy.
That said, the ChangeChecker scarcity index also takes into account two other important pieces of information.
This includes the number of each coin listed as “collected” by members of the site, which shows the relative ease of finding a particular coin.
The experts also looked at the number of times a design was asked to be swapped in the previous three months, showing the current level of demand among collectors.
Here are the coins that appear the most, and how many versions are in circulation – the ones that are obtained from your change – that have recently been sold for a price on eBay.
1. 2002 Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games – £53
The 2002 Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games’ £2 coin topped ChangeChecker’s scarcity index list.
One was recently sold on eBay for £53 – attracted 22 bids.
Only 485,500 of these are in circulation.
You can check the version of the coin you have by looking at the flag in the circle – it should depict the flag of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales.
2. 2002 British Commonwealth Games – £30
In second place is the British Commonwealth Games coin, which recently sold for £30 on eBay after 16 contractors locked the whistle.
Only 650,500 of these are in circulation.
3. 2002 Scottish Commonwealth Games – £18
The 2002 Scottish Commonwealth Games coin slipped to third place as it was second in the scarcity index in May.
The coin has lost a bit of value but still recently Sold for £18 on eBay after 13 coin collectors fight for the coin.
There are 771,750 of these in circulation.
4. World War I 2015 (navy) – £10
Launched in 2015 as part of a £2 coin set marking the centenary of World War I, 100 of these two pounds were given to HMS Belfast.
Coin hunters flocked to the ship to track them down.
We found an eBay listing there sold for 9.70 pounds.
5. Olympic Handover – £20
Now, it makes the top 5 as the Olympic Handover coin.
This £2 note details Beijing’s 2008 handover of the Olympics to London in 2012, and shows the Olympic flag and shaking hands.
One recent Sold for £20, attracted 9 bids.
There are 918,000 of these in circulation.
6. London 2012 Handover – £16
The London 2012 Handover Coin commemorates the UK capital’s handover of the Olympic flame to Rio, which hosted the games in 2016.
This has climbed on the scarcity list from sixth place.
A circulating version of the coin is sold for £16 on eBay in October 2021.
There are 845,000 in circulation.
7. Olympic One Year Anniversary – £9
Sports-themed, the Olympic record of £2 marked the 100th anniversary of the modern games in 2008, and there are 910,000 pieces in circulation.
A version sold on eBay for £8.50, more than its worth.
8. King James Bible – £16
Next on the list is a coin showing the King James Bible.
One sold on eBay in October 2021 for £16. The value has dropped as versions of the coin have previously sold on eBay for £25.
According to Change Checker, there are 975,000 sheets in circulation.
9. Mary Rose – £32
A circulating £2 note shows the famous Mary Rose ship Sold on eBay for £32. It has already attracted 17 bids.
Just over a million copies were in circulation.
10. Magna Carta – £9
Magna Carta Coin commemorating 800 years Magna Carta Signing Day.
£2 on sale recently for £9.16 on Ebay.
It has been in circulation since 2015 and now has 1,495,000 of them in people’s wallets, banks and coins around the country.
11. 2002 Wales Commonwealth Games – £21
The Commonwealth Games currency for Wales has dropped to 7th place on the list.
A recently circulated version Sold on eBay for £21 after attracting 7 bids.
There are 588,500 of these in circulation.
12. London Underground Wheel – £5
There are over 1.5 million London Underground themed coins in circulation.
One shows the famous circle of the capital’s transport system on sale in August 2021 for £5 on eBay, with five bids.
It is slightly below the current scarcity index, but it is still popular with collectors.
