Texas Tax Free Weekend 2022: What’s Eligible for Back-to-School Purchases and What’s Not

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — Families can save more on back-to-school shopping during Texas’ annual tax-free weekend now through Sunday, August 7th.

Shoppers can save $8 for every $100 they spend by eliminating sales tax on many school-related items.

Qualifying purchases include clothing, shoes, school supplies, face masks and backpacks.

A specific list of items can be found on the Texas Comptroller website.

You should also keep an eye out for items that aren’t tax-exempt so you don’t get caught off guard at the checkout.

Items that are still taxable include handbags, jewelry, watches, certain sporting equipment such as football pads and pants, golf gloves, baseball shoes, and more.

Check the full list of qualifying and non-qualifying products before hitting the stores.

You can also purchase qualifying items online and by phone order.

Keep in mind that you may still have to pay shipping and handling fees, which can affect your bottom line.

Shoppers are expected to save $112 million this weekend.
