Texas School Shooting: Everything We Know So Far

Fourteen students and a teacher were killed in a mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott announced.

A lone gunman is believed to have opened fire on Robb Elementary School just before noon and the school was immediately locked down.

Mr Abbott confirmed the gunman, believed to be an 18-year-old from Uvalde, had been killed.

Uvalde Memorial Hospital said in a statement just before 4pm that a total of 13 students had been transported to the emergency room in ambulances and buses. Two were pronounced dead on arrival.

At least one adult was also taken to the hospital after the shooting. Two of the injured were taken to a nearby trauma center for treatment.

What we know so far

Robb Elementary alerted parents at 11.43am Tuesday of the presence of an active shooter at the school.

“Please know that Robb Elementary is currently under lockdown status due to gunfire in the area,” school official Anne Marie Espinoza said in a post on the school’s Facebook page.

“Students and staff are safe in the building. The building is in a lockdown status. Your cooperation is required at this time by not visiting campus.”

Law enforcement quickly rushed to the area, including local, state, and federal agencies. Local residents have been urged to stay away from the area.

The Uvalde Police Department announced in a Facebook post just after 1pm that the “shooter is in police custody”. Further details about the shooter were not immediately released.

Ms Espinoza informed around 1.15pm that the school was still under lockdown due to “gunshots in the area”.

A police bus used for “mass sacrifice” events arrived at Uvalde Memorial Hospital, where two children have been confirmed dead and scores of others, including at least one adult, are being treated for injuries following an active shooting situation.

The students were later taken to the Willie DeLeon Civic Center to be reunited with their parents once they were considered.

“You will be notified to pick up the students once everyone is accounted for,” the district told parents.
