A Texas mother of three has shot and killed a man who broke into her home while her children slept – but police say she will not be charged.
The woman was at her home on Kashmuir Place in San Antonio with her children around 10 p.m. Thursday when she heard the man trying to get through the front door from the laundry room, News 4 San Antonio reported.
She opened fire, hitting the man, identified as 41-year-old Roman Rodriguez, twice in the chest, according to the KSAT. It is unclear whether the intruder was armed.
When police arrived, they found Rodriguez, covered in blood, sitting on a chair in the back yard. Police said he died on the way to the hospital.
No one else was physically injured in the incident.
The investigation continues, but the unidentified homeowner will not be charged because of the so-called Castle Doctrine, which allows a person to use force against an intruder who breaks into their home, News 4 San Antonio reported.
