Texas lawmakers are asking the FBI to use ‘maximum authority’ in the investigation of the Uvalde school shooting

A Texas lawmaker has officially requested a full FBI probe into troubling “conflicting reports” about how police responded to the second-deadliest school shooting in US history.

“I urge the FBI to use their maximum authority to investigate and provide a full report on the timeline, law enforcement response, and the deaths of 21 Texans.” Rep. Joaquin Castro said Thursday.

The Democrat shared his letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray with that formal request Thursday, shortly after police drastically changed key details about how 18-year-old Salvador Ramos got into Robb Elementary School and slaughtered 19 children and two teachers would have.

“The people of Uvalde, Texas and the nation deserve an accurate account of what happened,” Castro wrote.

“However, state officials have presented conflicting reports that conflict with those of witnesses.”

He noted his anger at new police updates on Thursday, which contradicted previous briefings that said Ramos had been confronted with a school police officer who had “hired” him outside of school.

He also called for a detailed timeline on how long it took officers to storm the classroom where Ramos was barricaded, as well as Tuesday’s “block of time” that “has yet to be fully accounted for.”

He also noted anger at how “parents unsuccessfully urged law enforcement to enter the building and confront the shooter during this time.”

Castro also requested a detailed timeline of how long it took officers to storm the classroom where the gunman was barricaded.

He urged the FBI director to “produce a full, timely, and transparent report of your findings.”

“Your agency must ensure that the American people have a full and comprehensive account of how this tragedy happened,” he said.
