Terrifying video shows Jayden Goodridge fatally shot

Shocking surveillance video was released on Wednesday showing the moment a gunman on an electric scooter fatally shot former basketball player Jayden Goodridge in the Bronx.

The 21-year-old was walking with two friends on East 149th Street and Jackson Avenue in the Mott Haven neighborhood around 6:15 p.m. Sunday when a volley of gunfire was fired at them.

In the short clip released by the NYPD, the suspect, on an electric scooter, raises his gun and fires several shots at the men walking on the sidewalk before turning right and disappearing from view.

Police officers responding to the scene found Goodridge shot multiple times in the stomach and another 21-year-old man suffering a abrasion to his lower lip, which was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Goodridge was taken to NYC Health & Hospitals/Lincoln where he died from his injuries the next day.

Police said they had no reason to believe Goodridge or any of his friends were the intended targets. No arrests had been made as of Wednesday morning.

Goodgride’s mother, Jennifer Gay, described her son to ABC 7 NY as a “happy kid” who brightened the mood around him.

“Anyone who meets Jayden will tell you the same thing, he’s just a great boy, he didn’t deserve to die like that,” she said.

The mother added that one of the friends who was with Goodridge on Sunday later told her that the mortally wounded Jayden was concerned for others in the first few moments after the shooting.

“He said ‘Are you alright, are you alright?’ and the friend told me he said, ‘You’re the one that got hit, how do you ask me if I’m alright?’ And you know, this is Jayden, he’s always worrying about everyone else,” Gay said.

Goodridge’s former Hoops coach Andree Thomas, who worked with him from 2016-2019 when he was on the Riverside Hawks’ AAU team, told The Post the young man was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Thomas recalled the former point guard, who graduated from the private Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, and showed up to the gym for workouts when he was “the youngest.”

“All the coaches just overlooked him because of his size,” said Thomas. “I gave him a chance and it was probably the best chance I’ve ever had in my coaching career. I think he had the heart, he wasn’t a disappointment.”

Goodridge was killed just before he was due to start a new job at American Eagle Outfitters. He is survived by his mother and sister.
