Surprise attack took place at the West Common Lane playground in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire on October 10 of last year.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, Pass approached her victim from behind, before she said she had been ‘chopped’ to the neck and torso.

The video shows the unnamed woman trying to run away before Pass pinned her face to the ground, placing his hand over her mouth until she lost consciousness.

She was unconscious for more than two minutes before Pass returned to her crime scene, pretending to be a nervous passerby who had found her unconscious so she wouldn’t recognize him as her attacker.

Police believes he assumes she won’t recognize him and that he can perform an additional attack on her.

But luckily, genuine passersby came to take her to safety, before she reported the crime to Humberside Police.

Pass, of Neville Street, Scunthorpe, was quickly identified and arrested and has been in custody ever since.

Yesterday, he pleaded guilty to committing an offense with intent to commit an act of sexual intercourse at Grimsby Crown Court.

He was jailed for more than three years for the assault and was also placed on the sex offender registry for life.

“This incident is shocking and heartbreaking, even given the level of violence Carl Pass used against the victim,” Detective

Constable Katie Drapier from Humberside Police said after sentencing:
“The victim was incredibly brave throughout and I cannot begin to put myself in her shoes.

“I would like to thank her, her family, and all the witnesses who came to assist our investigation, for their ongoing support and their kind comments that have been passed on to the team. mine.”

In sentencing, Judge Fanning said: “At a time when many question the determination of some police forces to tackle crimes against women, this police force and its officers This person will be commended for the speed with which they responded, and the resources and enthusiasm poured into this case to find you so quickly on the initial limited evidence.

“It’s a really impressive detective work.”

Detective Inspector Ruth Penning, also from the force’s PVP unit, said: “Although the number of assaults on strangers like this, especially of this magnitude, remains low in the past year. our region, but we understand that sexual harassment, abuse and assault cases are not uncommon across the UK, and very sadly our region is not one. Exception. “

She added that controlling violence against women and girls “remains a priority for the Force,” and police were committed to making the streets safer.

The officer said she hopes “swift action” taken to catch the “dangerous” Pass will help reassure the community and alert any potential offenders.

She said “expert support networks” were set up for victims and encouraged people to go to the police or independent anonymous charity Crimestoppers “when they are ready.”
