Tennis-Djokovic on the Australian Open roster, without Serena Williams

SYDNEY (Reuters) – World number one Novak Djokovic was named to next year’s Australian Open on Wednesday but 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams is not on the list.
Djokovic, who was also on the roster for the ATP Cup in Sydney when it was announced on Tuesday, declined to disclose his vaccination status even though everyone in Melbourne Park needs to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Williams, who won her last seven Australian Open titles in 2017, has had a season interrupted by injury and hasn’t competed since she limped off in her first match at Wimbledon. in tears because of a leg injury.
Tournament organizer Craig Tiley said last month the 40-year-old American, who needs one more Grand Slam title to match Margaret Court’s 24-year-old record, will compete at Melbourne Park from 17 to 19. January 30.
