Teens reminisced on girlfriends, community after Zebulon fatal car accident

ZEBULON, NC (WNCN) — A Franklin County community is mourning the deaths of two teenagers following a car accident Wednesday night.

Gabriel and Garrett Cribb were killed in a single car accident on Wednesday night and were both twins and high school students.

The two left behind a loving family and a community that adored them. Flowers and a baseball cap stand in her memory at the end of Howard Tant Road in Franklin County.

The two also had girlfriends, Mary Parsons, who dated Gabriel, and Brooke Morrow, who dated Garrett.

We spoke to them at Rustic Roots, the same place where Gabriel worked and was last seen. We asked how they were doing.

“Better,” Brooke said. Mary said she’s still working on it.

Although they were only in high school, they said they planned their entire lives around these two.

“He was always smiling and super happy. It was very rare that he gave off negative energy,” Mary said.

“It was pretty much love at first sight,” Brooke said, thinking about Garrett.

Mary shared that she and Gabriel had only been dating for a few months, and Brooke said she and Garet share similar hobbies, including wrestling.

Despite the differences in their relationships, they both wonder, “Why?”

Both shared their reactions after receiving the devastating news.

“I just like to break down like my heart just fell,” Mary said. “It doesn’t seem real. It doesn’t seem like that could happen to anyone that age or them. It makes no sense.”

“I was scared, I didn’t know. I was hoping they would be in a hospital or it was something small. I had thoughts that they were gone, but I just didn’t want to believe it,” Brooke said.

Meanwhile, students at Bunn High School decorated parking lots in memory of the twins.

The school also sent a statement.

Good Morning Bunn High Families,

The faculty and staff of BHS is sorry to report that a tragic accident occurred last night that killed Gabriel and Garrett Cribb, two BHS 10th graders. Other consultants are available to support us. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

Additionally, Bunn’s director, Mr. Jordan “Tyler” Morris, also released a statement:

We will greatly miss Gabriel and Garrett’s maturity and commitment to the school community. They were both great students who I can always count on to do the right thing. They loved wrestling and formed a special brotherhood with the wrestling team. This is a great loss for me and our Wildcat family.

We have attempted to reach the family but they have refused to speak and only want their privacy as they mourn in peace at this time.

In addition, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
